Schnucks Enhances Digital Shopping Experience with AI Assistant and Interactive Weekly Ad

Schnuck Markets has introduced two new digital tools for its customers, marking a significant step in enhancing the in-store and online shopping experience. The first is the previously announced artificial intelligence-powered shopping assistant, now available on the company's app and website. The second is an updated, fully interactive weekly ad, as detailed in a press release issued Wednesday.

Dive Brief:

  • Schnuck Markets now offers two new digital tools for customers: the AI-powered shopping assistant, which was previously announced, and an updated weekly ad, according to a Wednesday press release.
  • Shoppers can use the AI tool to create shopping lists, receive meal suggestions based on ingredients they already have, and get personalized nutritional guidance.
  • The new interactive weekly ad allows customers to clip digital coupons directly from the ad, add items to their shopping list or online cart, and view detailed product information.

Dive Insight:

The launch of the AI tool comes just a few weeks after Schnucks unveiled its development. The tool was created in partnership with VitalityIP, an AI-powered digital nutrition guidance and health data platform. The agent leverages an intelligence layer built from more than 6 billion lines of shopping, health, and nutrition data, enabling it to use weekly deals and recommended products to assist users in building their shopping lists.

Schnucks positions the AI assistant as a means to strengthen customer relationships by better addressing individual needs—whether related to nutrition, meal inspiration, or budget management. The company emphasizes that this is not merely a search bar but a personalized digital shopping assistant that understands the nuances of Schnucks aisles, sales, promotions, and customer lifestyles.

“It’s not a search bar — it will be a personalized digital shopping assistant that understands Schnucks aisles, sales, promotions, customers' lifestyles, and much, much more,” said Ted Schnuck, Chief Operating Officer of Schnuck Markets, in a statement.

With the updated weekly ad, customers can view all sale items in one centralized location, search and filter for specific products, activate deals on qualifying items, and see which items are available for different shopping methods, including in-store, delivery, and pickup. For those who prefer the traditional format, the ad offers a toggle between interactive and “classic” modes.

Schnucks also confirmed that it will continue to provide printed copies of both the current and next week’s ads at all of its stores, ensuring accessibility for all customers.

Schnuck Markets operates 112 stores across Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana.
