More than a year after Southwest Airlines madesignificant adjustmentsto its product offerings, the company says strong customer engagement proves its upgraded products are popular with travelers, driving revenue growth.

According to the financial report, Southwest Airlines'second-quarter operating revenuewas $8.4 billion, up 16.4% year-over-year; revenue per available seat mile (RASM) increased 16.2% year-over-year. Rising fuel costs pressured profits, with fuel expenses increasing by nearly $900 million. Even so, net income still grew 9.4% year-over-year to $233 million.

Jordan said: "We have grown into a stronger, more resilient, and better-positioned Southwest Airlines, while our unique core strengths remain solid." These strengths include not only the route network and operational efficiency, but alsoSouthwest's brand loyaltyas well as the service and hospitality provided by employees. Jordan emphasized: "This gives us a differentiated position in the market that other airlines cannot replicate."

Jordan also cited JD Power research, which for the fifth consecutive year ranked Southwest Airlines asnumber one in customer satisfaction among economy class passengers at North American airlines

Drivers Behind Rapid Rewards Growth

Regarding the surge in Rapid Rewards sign-ups, travel expert and Going.com analyst Katy Nastro believes a key factor has emerged: "Bags fly free... as long as you have the right credit card."

Nastro said: "Some travelers who hadn't previously enrolled in the frequent flyer program may now view the credit card as a money-saving tool—applying for the card automatically opens a Rapid Rewards account."

Future Outlook: Starlink and More Innovations

Southwest Airlines launched its firstStarlink-equipped aircraftlast month and plans to complete installation onmore than 300 aircraftby the end of the year. In comparison, Alaska Airlines has already installed Starlink on about a third of its aircraft, and customersatisfaction on its Starlink-equipped flights is 20% higher

than on non-equipped flights. Additionally, Southwest plans to expand its co-branded product portfolio and add airport lounges.

According to Chief Operating Officer Andrew Watterson, Southwest's trip Net Promoter Score (trip NPS) improved consistently throughout the quarter, and its customer complaint rate is the lowest among major U.S. airlines.
